Intent
Emerson Valley Primary School aims to develop a Design Technology (DT) curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum, ensuring students gain essential knowledge, skills, and understanding. The school provides a balanced education that fosters spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical growth, preparing students for future opportunities. High- quality DT lessons encourage independent thinking, innovation, and creativity while developing procedural and technical skills.
Implementation
The KS2 Design Technology curriculum fully incorporates the National Curriculum while enhancing learning with additional skills and knowledge. Projects follow a structured design process, including research, design, making, and evaluation, with food-based units included annually. A strong emphasis is placed on health and safety, cross-curricular connections, and real-world applications. Displays celebrate student work and reinforce key terminology. The curriculum encourages both independent and collaborative learning, fostering problem-solving skills and teamwork.
Impact
Children will gain confidence and enjoyment in design and technology, applying their knowledge across the curriculum and beyond. They will retain and demonstrate their understanding through practical applications, developing valuable skills for their future education and adulthood.
