PE and Sports Premium
What is the Sports Premium?
At Emerson Valley we are highly committed to ensuring quality PE and Sports provision for all children at Emerson Valley. We also believe passionately in the important contribution this aspect of the curriculum makes towards personal development and healthy lifestyles.
From September 2013 schools have received additional funding to help them improve the quality of sport and PE in schools and to increase the levels of participation in sporting activities out of school. Our additional funding for PE and sports for this academic year was £20,740.
The four objectives of the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding are:
- To improve the quality of existing PE teaching through continuing professional learning in PE for generalists, so that all primary pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, and have broader exposure to a range of sports
- To increase participation levels in competitive sport and healthy activity of pupils, and maintain these into adolescence
- To increase the quality of initial teacher training in PE and sport, and to promote PE specialisation in primary level workforce
- Schools understand and value the benefits of high quality PE and sport, including its use as a tool for whole school improvement – bring in equipment to aid this
The 5 Key Indicators:
- Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
- Profile of PE and sport is raised across the school.
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and Sport.
- Broader experience of a range of sports.
- Increased participation in competitive sport.
Our Primary School Sport’s Funding has enabled our school to:
- increase the quality and breadth of activities on offer to children and over the past year many more children have participated in a wide range of extra-curricular physical activities.
- purchase new sports equipment, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver quality PE sessions.
- provide additional top-up swimming lessons to pupils who have not been able to meet the national curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety after the delivery of core swimming and water safety lessons. At the end of Key Stage 2, all pupils are expected to be able to swim confidently and know how to be safe in and around water.
- Pay for membership of the Milton Keynes Primary Sports Partnership. Membership of this organisation brings several important benefits to the school and the children at Emerson Valley.
In short, the key benefits of the membership of the Milton Keynes Primary Sports Partnership are as follows:
- Opportunities for professional development in the form of courses for our sports coaches and the opportunity for specialist coaches to come into school to support and guide staff.
- Ongoing development and review of our P.E. curriculum.
- Opportunities for children to participate in sporting festivals and competitions.
